Which Should I Buy, Mac or PC?

It is the perennial question that a new computer shopper has to ask, Mac or PC? Both systems have their pros and cons, but the Mac generally comes out ahead when you sit down and look at the quality and standard features.

The first area a Mac tends to show its quality is during startup, which takes less time to get to the desktop(home screen) than most Windows based machines. This is due to the fact that the Mac OS is built specifically for the hardware it is running on, whereas Windows needs to work across a wide variety of components that are made by different vendors. Apple is the only company that builds the Macintosh so it is easier to design the Mac system to work efficiently with the machine it is running on.

Once the system is up, the Mac OS (known as Leopard in its most recent version.) is much simpler to operate due to its built in tutorials and standardized look and feel across all Mac applications. Most operations are based on a simple drag and drop type interface. The Mac is also a little smoother when it comes to multitasking, depending on how much memory you have and the type of programs you may have that are running in the background.

There is also the advantage of fewer errors when running a Mac system. Though Windows has improved through the years, it still can run into system errors and lock ups with little or no warning. It can get pretty frustrating after awhile when you find you need to save every ten minutes or risk losing what you were working on.

One of the greatest advantages to the Mac is that it is less susceptible to the virus, worms and other malware, that have become so common on the internet. Whereas it would be unthinkable to run a PC on the internet without anti-virus software, a Mac can run with little risk to picking up a virus or some other malware.

Finally, Apple’s quality control and technical support are second to none in the computer industry. This is important when it comes to repair and support of your computer if it ever breaks down. Macs are less likely to need repair, but when they do Apple is there to stand behind and support them.
